There is nothing I love more than seeing the joy on my children's faces as they see and do new things. Celebrating holidays is so much fun with them and Halloween is no exception. They loved picking out pumpkins at Jakers Jack-O-Lanterns this year. Jakers had a huge corn pit that they could play in as well as a petting zoo and hayride. We also got lost in the corn maze which was Chloe's favorite part of the night. She insisted on leading the pack and finding the way out... which resulted in us being lost for quite a while. We had a fun night out together. I love fall, I love building traditions, and I love my family.
So the day after my birthday, Tanner and I went out on a date to celebrate both of our birthdays while Michelle and Mike watched our children. Tanner picked the restaurant and I picked the movie. He chose Tucahnos and I chose "Everest" for the movie. It was so nice to have an evening out. Usually we just go out to movies while M&M listen but the fact that we got both dinner and a movie was a treat.
For Tanner's birthday I tried to make his as special as mine was. I sort of failed. When Tanner came home from work he picked up Shirley's cinnamon rolls and he was smothered with hugs, kisses, and songs from the kids. Then I had him open his two presents which were the fails. I got him an ASU shirt and a button down shirt which he wanted to return both. Oh well... he is ridiculously hard to buy for. I told him he could just go shopping and find something he likes... but the thing is he won't ever do it. He also has an ASU hat coming that didn't arrive in time. Hopefully he will like that. Then he slept for the day since he worked all night and that evening his brother and sister in law, Chris and Leslie, arrived from Arizona to stay with us for the weekend. We all went out to dinner at Outback Steakhouse. The children were a little restless but overall it was an enjoyable dinner. Chris and Leslie went to a missionary reunion and then we came home, put the kids to bed, and then watched our TV shows again while I massaged Tanner's feet... for a long time. I could tell he wasn't feeling like it was his birthday so I wanted to make it up to him.
The next day he blew out candles that were on top of a pop cake that was at his request. All weekend we were able to visit with family and enjoy conference. On Saturday night we met up with Brandon and Shanna and went to Maglebys for dinner. It has been a fun couple of weeks I must say. We are ready to get back on track with our budget and our diet. Happy Birthday Tanner, we love you and appreciate all that you are!

Well it all started with my birthday. It was a very ordinary simple birthday but one of my best yet. I must have had extra angels hovering over me because I don't know... I just felt really blessed and overwhelmed with gratitude for all of my blessings.
First, Tanner came home early from work at 6:30 AM and let me sleep in! That right there was the best present ever! When I woke up at 8:30 (I was so excited to wake up because you know... it's my birthday) Tanner and Chloe had decorated the house with balloons hanging from the ceiling and a birthday banner. I felt very loved and special in that moment. It's funny how much balloons and party decor makes a difference. It probably just brings back happy memories from my childhood. I ended up keeping up the decorations the entire week so Tanner could enjoy them too on his day.
Second, I showered (which every mom knows is like going to the spa for 10 minutes). Tanner got passes from work to go to Thanksgiving Point, so I invited Michelle and the boys to come with me and the kids to Country Farm. It was a little warm and crowded but besides that it was a fun outing with the kids. We raced back to meet up for lunch at Chik fil A with another girl friend from the ward, Rachel Langford. I loved not having to make my kids lunch!
Third, after our outing to the farm and lunch, both children took good naps and I had alone time for two hours! What?! I read a book snuggled up on the couch and enjoyed the silence.
Fourth, Tanner woke up and we all went out to the Food Truck Round Up for dinner. There is a food truck called Fiore that has the best pizza! Since it is outside, it is kid friendly so we didn't have to deal with restaurant kid tantrums.
Fifth, all of my favorite shows returned for the season that night so after the kids were asleep Tanner and I indulged in a very relaxing evening at home. Need I see simply perfect? I mean yes, nothing super extravagant happened today but it was just good. A very good ordinary day.
I can't forget to mention what Tanner got me. He got me white converse shoes and "Gifted Hands" book by Ben Carson. Chloe helped me make brownies and drew me the sweetest picture. William gave me extra kisses that day because he knew something was up and that today was my day. Happy Birthday to me... so far 27 doesn't look too shabby.
We celebrated my grandma turning the big 80! Andrew made a video of a bunch of videos made by most of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. It varied from people saying happy birthday to sharing a favorite memory of Grandma. It was so sweet and I shed a tear or two. When I think about the life my Grandma led it brings tears to my eyes. She truly is an incredible woman. The older I get, the more I realize the hardships and trials she went through and how she overcame them and still is. My favorite memories of Grandma are when we spent summers with her in Ione, California. I remember going into her room and playing dress up with her scarves. I remember her making peanut butter cookies and doing the criss cross design on top with a fork. I remember performing plays with my cousins for her and just watching her as she sat outside with Grandpa looking out at their view. She is a beautiful woman and she still radiates that beauty. She loves to decorate her house and I think I got that love from her. She is constantly rearranging her furniture and putting new decor up. Even with how weak her body has become, she still finds the energy to keep her home looking beautiful. She always knew how to make things beautiful. That is just one of the things that I love about her. I have to mention how intelligent and wise she is. I loved when she lived in our basement when I was in Junior High. I used to go downstairs and ask her for help with homework and she always was the biggest help... especially with English (my least favorite subject). I could go on and on about my lovey, sweet, Grandma. I love love LOVE her with all of my heart and I hope I can be as awesome as she is when I am a Grandma. Chloe loves to hang out with her and there is no wonder why. I love you Grandma! Happy Birthday!
Sometimes Tanner's schedule makes it so I am alone with the kids during the evening and by that time I am truly exhausted and counting down the minutes until bedtime. Today I decided to whip out my camera and just snap a few pictures of my children. I try really hard to enjoy this phase of my life but sometimes it can get really tough. I love this time of year with the falling leaves, golden sunsets, and crisp air. September and October are my two favorite months. I love these photos that I snapped even though they are simple and probably won't mean anything to anyone else. It shows me how these two kids have a tender heart and how much they love my sister's dog Coco. It portrays Chloe's femininity as she twirls and dances around the yard like a graceful ballerina. It captures how William is never wearing pants. Just simple things I don't want to forget.
